Laos is landlocked, meaning that it is surrounded on all sides by land. Laos borders China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. The Mekong River forms part of Laos's western border. The Mekong is one of the major rivers of southeastern Asia, and it is the center of economic life in Laos.
